Mohegan Fun (Part 1)

Last night, Jerry and I went to Mohegan Sun to see Grand Funk Railroad perform in the Wolf's Den for free. I am not as huge of a Grand Funk Railroad fan as Jerry, but I have to say they were really good. The place was packed!! They came out right on time and I really started to enjoy myself when they started playing songs I knew. The only disappointing part was how early and quickly they left the stage to end the performance. Usually bands come out and give an encore for their fans before they leave for the night. After only an hour of playing, they said they had to go and they were not kidding. They walked off the stage and the lights came up and that was that! Very strange....

Spending Time at the Alpaca Farm

Well we finally made it to the Alpaca Farm this year! I had discovered this farm online last year but we always seemed to miss the dates that the public is allowed to visit the farm. So this year, Kaela and I marked our calendars and finally made it to the farm.
Wasn't exactly what we were thinking it was going to be. But it was fun and we learned an awful lot about Alpaca's that we never knew. Kaela is the Alpaca lover, but I did enjoy spending some time with them too.
The farm we went to was called, "New England Alpacas" which is located in Killingworth, Connecticut. This farm is owned by Lou and Melissa Ferrara. And although we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Melissa, we had a very nice time with Lou answering all our questions we had while we were there. If you are going to be in the area, or would just like to check out the farm on your own, here is the link to their website: www.nealpacas.com

The 'farm' is actually in The Ferrara's backyard.

These little guys are so cute but very strange animals. The littlest thing scares them
But they are so nosy, they can't help but come back to see what is going on *LoL*
Some Alpaca's are groomed differently and are shared throughout the Alpaca community so they can make babies

This was my favorite Alpaca. All she did was eat the whole time we were there :)

This is Lou. The Alpaca's were very fond of him and followed him around while he was in their pen

Look at that Alpaca looking at Lou, so cute!!

Such a nice time at the farm. Glad we went. This particular farm had 25 Alpaca's.

And Kaela took home some souvenirs :)

Not sure how Jerry felt about this whole trip. But I do know he enjoyed the lunch we stopped to eat on the way home ;)  *LoL*

My Herb Project

I am so proud of my green thumb this year :) Every year I get my planters all set for my summer herbs. Shop for the just right herbs to plant. Take them home and lovingly transplant them into their new planter for the summer. Then treat them horribly and neglect them all summer long. We get busy, it's too hot to go out and water them. One excuse after another. So this year, I decided to take the time to love and nurture my herbs so I could not only enjoy them all summer, but in the winter months as well. And some of my success was listening to my Mom when she suggested I give my herbs some plant food... Thanks Mom ;)
I am so proud of my results this year. And I was diligent in bringing all the herbs I had planted in early, so I could dice them up and get them frozen while they were at their peak so I can use them in my recipes when fresh is called for in the off peak seasons.

Here are some of my herbs at their peak:

Basil and Mint
 Oregano
Rosemary
Thyme and Sage

One of my favorite places to take a cup of coffee and a good book. Surrounded by all my herbs :)

I have to admit that winterizing herbs is a lot of work. But I am so glad I did it and hope they come in handy in a lot of recipes during the cold months quickly approaching :(

Working with my Parsley
Getting them minced up and measured out into ice cube trays
Add just enough water to cover the herbs
Once they are frozen. Pop them out of the ice cube trays and into marked freezer bags and then back into the freezer.

This batch of Parsley I like to tell everyone, I got creative with. But the truth is, the other ice cube trays were dirty from my other herbs. So that will be 'our' little secret :D

Happy Birthday Kaela!!

24 years old! That's how old my baby became today!! I don't know where that time went! I think every parent in the world says that *LoL* But it's true!!
I think Kaela had a nice birthday. I know we all enjoyed celebrating it with her :)

It's A "Deer" Reunion

Well that's what it seemed like this morning in our backyard! I was on the phone talking to my Mom and I noticed a deer in our backyard. The next thing you know, there were 2 adult deer and 4 babies running around!! The adults are so pretty. And the babies are so cute. Of course my husband doesn't think so when they eat all his flowers plants :/

But I still love having them come visit ;)

New Camera!

Well I finally did get my new camera and I am loving it so far! What a huge difference from my old camera!! They are both Cannon, but the new one does so much more then my old one. And it takes way better pictures, with a 20x zoom!! Compared to my 5x zoom on my old one. Still have a lot to learn about this camera. But here are a few random pictures I have taken in the backyard.
